Officials: Couple crashed and flipped homemade aircraft on icy NH runway

ALTON - A homemade aircraft landed upside down after trying to take off from an Alton Bay runway.

Crews responded quickly to the scene after seeing the crash happen while assisting a man whose truck fell through the ice on Lake Winnipesaukee while trying to move a bob house. The pilot and passenger were both stuck inside the cockpit when officials arrived.

Crews were able to break the glass as bystanders lifted the tail of the plane and help the people trapped inside, who are husband and wife. The pilot had minor injuries, but the passenger wasn't hurt.

An investigation has been launched by the F.A.A. The couple flew had originally flown to Alton Bay from New Jersey.
