Off-duty NH State Trooper rescues owl that hit car

The Associated Press

MERRIMACK (AP) — An injured owl is recovering after an off-duty New Hampshire trooper rescued it over the weekend.

Trooper Christopher Cummings tells WMUR-TV the owl struck the side of his car Saturday night while he was with his wife on Industrial Boulevard in Merrimack.

The couple then circled back to help the owl. Cummings' wife called Capital Area Veterinary Services in Concord, who told them to wrap the owl tightly.

Cummings says he wrapped the owl in his fleece coat and cradled him like a baby while the couple rushed to Concord.

A veterinarian says the owl was stunned but not severely hurt. Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation has the owl and will likely release him back into the wild on Monday.
