MANCHESTER- An off-duty Manchester police sergent jumped in to help a fellow officer when he spotted her struggling with a driver who had fled a car crash Friday night.

Officer Lisa Callahan noticed a pickup truck operating erratically about 8 p.m. Friday night, June 9, near the intersection of Second Street and Queen City Avenue. Callahan attempted to stop the truck, a 2000 Toyota Tundra being driven by Eric Sleeper, 46, of Northfield. Sleeper allegedly drove through a red light at Sundial Avenue before pulling into Elliot-River's Edge and headed towards the facility's parking garage.

Sleeper lost control of the truck, struck a pole and the side of a building before jumping out and fleeing on foot.

Callahan chased Sleeper and was able to grab him by the wrist. Sleeper made repeated attempts to break the officer's grasp. She used her Taser twice on Sleeper before he fell onto the ground.

He continued to fight while on the ground as Callahan attempted to place him under control. Off-duty police Manchester police sergeant Joe Ryan saw what was happening and help her handcuff Sleeper.

Police determined the truck was stolen from Tilton that day and that Sleeper had a suspended license from a 2015 case involving conduct after an accident.
Sleeper was charged with receiving stolen property, disobeying a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, conduct after an accident, resisting arrest/detention and simple assault on a police officer.
