Ocean Road in Portsmouth closed for gas main break

PORTSMOUTH - Ocean Road was closed on Thursday afternoon as firefighters responded to a gas main break.

Deputy Chief James Heinz said police, fire crews and utility company workers were on the scene near 380 Ocean Road dealing with the break of a 6-inch gas main, shutting down the flow of gas.

No evacuations were required, but Heinz said the road will remain closed for now and that fire officials are working with the school district to reroute buses as needed.

According to police, Ocean Road is closed from Banfield Road to Marriette Drive. Vehicles traveling from Route 33 to Ocean Road will be redirected down Banfield.

Vehicles traveling from Route One/Lafayette Rd. will be redirected down Mariette Drive. They are asking drivers to avoid the area.
