Northfield blaze heavily damages town garage, equipment

NORTHFIELD - After a fire early Friday morning, the Northfield Town Highway Garage has sustained heavy damage, along with several pieces of town equipment.

According to The Citizen, the fire was reported by a neighbor around 2 a.m. and contained by Tilton-Northfield firefighters by 3 a.m.

State Fire Inspector Tom Schutzius said he doesn't believe the fire is suspicious, but the state fire marshal, the fire department and the town's insurance carrier are investigating the fire.

In the meantime, selectmen and Highway Superintendent Andy Buteau are assessing the damage to town vehicles and equipment and coming up with a plan to continue services to residents.

No one was injured in the fire.
