Northern New Englanders prep for foot or more of snow

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) - Hardware stores are doing a brisk business in shovels and ice melting products and plow crews are resting up and checking equipment in advance of a storm that could dump more than a foot of snow on much of northern New England.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch beginning at 10 p.m. Monday for most of northern New England.

A strong coastal storm is anticipated to move from south to north overnight and continue into Tuesday. A foot of snow is predicted for much of Maine, New Hampshire and southern Vermont.

Tom Worthington, manager of Rocky's Ace Hardware in Concord, New Hampshire, says eight out of every 10 customers Sunday were buying shovels and ice melt. He says customers are "preparing for the worst."
