No injuries, man arrested after quick 'gun gesture' with hands causes Salem officer to shoot

SALEM – No injuries have been reported in Tuesday morning's officer-involved shooting on Broadway.

Police responded to a report at 286 No. Broadway from Liberty Utilities, who were there to turn off the business’ power, of a disgruntled employee carrying a handgun.

When officers arrived they gave verbal commands to drop the handgun but the man refused to show his hands.

According to police, the man made quick movement with his hands in a “gun gesture” and the Salem officer shot back, missing the man.

It was determined that the man did not have a weapon in his possession. He was taken into custody.

The investigation is still ongoing.
