Niyomugabo selects UNH

Merrimack Valley quarterback Ivan Niyomugabo has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of New Hampshire.

Niyomugabo, a senior, has been Merrimack Valley's starting quarterback since midway through his freshman season. He also had scholarship offers from Saint Anselm College and Central Connecticut State.

Niyomugabo attended the UNH-Lehigh game Saturday, one week after he attended a game at Central Connecticut State.

Niyomugabo received an offer from Saint Anselm following the New Hampshire Football Showcase in July. Offers from UNH and Central Connecticut State came shortly thereafter.

Niyomugabo is 6-1 and weighs 185 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 and 4.72 seconds at Central Connecticut State earlier this year. He passed for 1,654 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, when he also ran for 783 yards and 11 TDs.

He is the second in-state quarterback to accept a scholarship offer from UNH in as many years. Former Nashua South quarterback Trevor Knight is in his freshman season with the Wildcats.
