NHMS race honors late radioman Andy Blacksmith

LOUDON - A 100-lap race honoring the late WHEB radio host Andy Blacksmith was held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday.

The race, titled the "Andy Blacksmith 100," was part of the Whelen Modified Series.

Blacksmith died in June while awaiting a heart transplant.

“It’s just amazing for me to be here today for him, because I know that he would want me to be here," said Blacksmith's mother, Barbara Celata.

Several of Blacksmith's longtime colleagues also attended the race.

“We’re sad that we lost our friend, but the fact that there’s a positive message that comes out of all of it, it really warms all of our hearts," said Greg Kretschmar, Blacksmith's longtime co-host on 'Greg and the Morning Buzz.'

"And we really feel the support of everybody around us. So, it’s a great day," Kretschmar said.

Todd Szegedy, driving the #4 car, took the checkered flag.
