NHL Draft lottery kicks off Saturday night

NEW YORK — The NFL isn't the only professional sport with their draft this weekend.

The NHL Draft lottery is Saturday night at 8 p.m. on NBC.

The lottery determines the order of selection for the first 14 picks, according to nhl.com.

All the clubs that didn't qualify for this season's Stanley Cup Playoffs are eligible to participate, including the Boston Bruins.

The draft lottery is changing a little bit this year. For the first time, the lottery will assign the top three spots in the first round of the draft whereas in previous years the lottery determined the winner of the first overall selection only.

As a result of this change, the team earning the fewest points during the regular season will no longer be guaranteed, at worst, the second overall pick. That club could fall as low as fourth overall.
