NH1 Top 5: Biggest Hurricanes in New England History

The eye of Hurricane Joaquin is over the Bahamas, and the storm is expected to bring more heavy rain, winds and a significant storm surge as it moves across the Atlantic toward the United States.

Late Thursday morning, Joaquin had maximum sustained winds of 130 mph (205 kph), making it a major Category 4 hurricane.

The hurricane is expected to hit the U.S. somewhere between NC and NJ later this weekend.

The storm will eventually move north and could pose a danger to New Hampshire and New England.

This won't be the first time. NH1 News took a look at historic hurricanes in New England -- and here are the top 5, according to a summary by Yankee Magazine.
