NH1's My Take: A primer on March Madness
For the true sports fan, this is the most wonderful time of the year.
Yup March Madness is in full effect. This is the week we stock up on energy drinks and spring rolls while we sit back and enjoy from Thursday afternoon until Sunday when reality sets in.
Watching the games they are supposed to be played, giving their all for the world to see until they join the cast of malcontents in the NBA.
Right? Wrong. What we truly enjoy about the Final Four is the agony of defeat.
Rooting against the teams you hate, hoping a number one seed falls to a number 16 seed. Eastern Washington State. The only thing that gives me more joy of the fans of a favorite hoping their team makes it to the Final Four is the faces of parents of Little Leaguers of the International team cry as their team loses the Little League World Series to a team from Podunk, USA.
Heck, I get more joy out of watching teams I don't like lose as I do watching teams I do like win.
Nothing would make me want to do the Maury Povich "You are not the father" dance more than see Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski strip down to his Duke Blue Devil boxers screaming as his team gets blown out in the first round again.
The only thing letting me down this year is the suspension by the NCAA of Syracuse as I won't have the chance to giggle like a school girl as the Orange get spanked by a kid from some no-name kid from Tuscaloosa.
Sure, those are thoughts we would not say out loud. But you know I am right.
Well, that's My Take. What's yours?
