NH1 Political Pulse: Hassan-Ayotte virtually tied in US Senate Democratic poll
CONCORD - Gov. Maggie Hassan is locked in a virtual dead heat against Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH according to a poll done for the PAC dedicated to US Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill.
If that mock election were held, the two-term Gov. Hassan leads the one-term Sen. Ayotte, 45-44 percent with the rest undecided.
Earlier this spring, the US Chamber of Commerce poll had Ayotte leading Hassan by 9 percentage points.
“Kelly Ayotte puts her special interest supporters first and her poll numbers show people across New Hampshire taking notice,” said Shripal Shah, spokesman for the Senate Majority PAC. “She’s clearly vulnerable in 2016, especially in a hypothetical race against Governor Hassan.”
Republican State Chairman Jennifer Horn of Nashua said the poll proves what the state GOP has claimed for months [-] that Hassan has been in collusion with Senate Democrats to promote a US Senate campaign in 2016.
"The release of this bogus survey is further proof that Governor Hassan is coordinating with Washington insiders on a Senate campaign instead of focusing on addressing the state budget crisis that she created,’’ Horn said in a statement.
"Governor Hassan should be very worried about her senate prospects if she's in a dead heat in one of Harry Reid's cooked up, liberal special interests funded polls."
Hassan says she won’t make up her mind about whether to seek re-election or take on Ayotte until a permanent state budget is in place.
Lawmakers approved up to a six-month temporary state budget after Hassan vetoed the budget the Republican-led Legislature had put on her desk.
