NH1 News Poll: Big support for death penalty in NH

A new NH1 News Poll says that most Granite Staters support the death penalty.

Statewide, 64.7% of those polled say they support the death penalty. Among registered Republicans, the support is even more pronounced, with 77.9% support. Undeclared voters are also firmly behind the practice, with 69.6% support.

A majority of registered Democrats in the state are against a death penalty, with 55.7% saying they are opposed.

The telephone survey of 906 New Hampshire voters was conducted by REACH Communications on April 10 among registered Republicans, Democrats and undeclared voters in New Hampshire. It has a margin of error +/- 3.25%.

New Hampshire is the only state in New England that still has a death penalty on the books, but has not executed anyone since 1939. One inmate is on death row in New Hampshire.
