MANCHESTER - You're driving along and then you hear a loud bang.
Turns out, it's a manhole cover hitting your car.
But who's responsible?
A viewer emailed NH1 News for help and we helped her get answers to that problem.
The pictures Lauren Osborne of Manchester took of her car tires painted a grim picture, including bent rims and flat tires.
It wasn't exactly the way she wanted to start off her work week this Monday.
"There was a manhole with a loose cover," Osborne recalls.
Another driver, she says, drove over that manhole cover and then it flew up into the air and hit her car.
"It could have flown up in the air and hit me in the windshield and whose supposed to be responsible for that?" asked Osborne. "If something happened and I died or if something happened and even if I hit another car because it was coming towards me. So whose fault is it?"
We wanted to know, too.
So we called Manchester City Hall time after time and sent many emails and they never responded to us.
And keep in mind that we first tried getting in touch with them on Monday.
"So we kept digging and so did Osborne and we found that lane where the manhole hit her car closed Thursday night for repair.
The city getting back in touch saying an area hospital owned the manhole area and apparently a local cable company had been working on it.
Then, Osborne says, her husband watched as crews worked on the road Thursday night.
So now that we know who owns the manhole and who was apparently working on it and who didn't secure it properly, Osborne's still in shock - sticker shock, that is.
"Oh God," Osborne said as she nervously laughed. "How much is this going to cost me?"
So who will foot the bill?
Osborne says she's been told the hospital will but that remains to be seen.
Of course, we will keep you posted.
