BARRINGTON – The war over water in Barrington now appearing online with a new petition seeking residents signatures.
It’s a fight between a centuries-old store against a new business that wants to open up next door.
On one side, George Calef Fine Foods - in the town since 1869.
On the other, a company known as Three Socios, LLC which bought the property next store to Calef.
Their plan is to build a 5,000 square foot gas station and convenience store.
So what's all the fuss about?
It all boils down to water, well water, that is.
Calef gets his from a neighboring business with Three Socios wanting to put in a community well.
Calef claims that's they're way of putting him out of business while Three Socios says they've gone out of their way for him.
In the meantime, Calef had his own well drilled last month after getting approval from the state but not from the town.
And the latest chapter?
A petition seeking to deny the building that Three Socios wants to build.
NH1 News has reached out to the town of Barrington to find out whether the petition will affect any decisions. We will update this story once we hear back.
