NH1 My Take with Paul Quitadamo: Best weekend of sports? Think again.

I'm Paul Quitadamo for NH1 Sports, and this is My Take.

What a weekend it was for sports fan. NFL draft, NBA and NHL playoff games, Red Sox, Yankees, the Kentucky Derby and of course the fight of the century Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Awesome right? Maybe, but I couldn't help but have mixed feelings about it

I woke up early Sunday morning, opened up the sports page, and looked back at the weekends events. Now when it comes to the NHL and NBA playoffs, if there's no B's and no C's I still check the scores but my heart's not in it, we know what happened with the Sox so I'm not even going there. I like the ponies but I'd rather be in the grandstands with a bunch of goombas than hoyty toyty funny hat wearing rich folks so I just checked to see how much I could have made if I picked the quinella.

The two things I was paying attention to was the draft and the fight. I'm happy the Pats were able to snag Malcom Brown in the first round and was bummed that the Pac Man lost in a decision. Then something hit me and I got all philosophical.

Here's my take. What has this world come to when Jameis Winston, a guy with a rap sheet as long as my arm who's still facing a civil trial for a rape he was accused of in 2012 is the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, and a greedy loud mouth who's been convicted for domestic violence and played run around the ring all night, is now the welterweight champion of the world and will probably fight a nobody in September to tie Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record? What ever happened to character and integrity? My father always said that in the end that's all we're left with. But in sports these days I guess you don't need that to collect a fat paycheck.

After all that ran through my head I was totally disgusted with everything that had anything to do with sports. I through down my paper and turned on the TV. Wouldn't ya know, it's on ESPN. I point the remote to change it when all of the sudden, like the sports Gods were reminding me that there is good in the world, up popped the ESPN 30 for 30 logo and the topic, Bo Jackson. I sat back and smiled as I watched the story of talent, perseverance, character and integrity. Now I could enjoy my Sunday. And for a little icing on the cake, my son sent me a copy of a tweet directed at Mayweather that said, "Floyd, you're supposed to hug your girlfriend and punch your opponent, not the other way around."

That's my take, what's yours? Leave it below or email it to
