NH1 First Alert Weather: Sunny days are ahead, New Hampshire!

NH1 Chief Meteorologist

Looks like the showers were we watching for Thursday are going to stay south. Not the best news as we could use the rain, but New Hampshire has seen some rain this week ranging from .25-1". A low will pass mainly south of the forecast area through the mid-Atlantic states today. Scattered showers are possible across southern New England, with the steadiest rain along the south coast. While New Hampshire will be mostly dry, clouds will accompany this batch of rain riding south. Some of these clouds will stream through during the day. with Partly to Mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 70's.

The weekend looks spectacular with comfortable humidity and dewpoints in the 50's. A huge upper level will be shifting east and setting up right over us Friday into Monday. High pressure will dominate the weather map in New England allowing for sunny skies and warm temperatures in the 80's inland. 850mb temperatures will start to warm by Sunday and Monday ahead of approaching low pressure. This will bump high temperatures into upper 80s and Lwr 90's for inland areas. Along the coast a seabreeze will develop each day Friday through Monday keeping the immediate coast a few degrees cooler in the 70's and Lwr 80's. Will it be a Heat wave? Tough call at this point. We need 3 days in a row at 90+. Looks we will fall short of the threshold. I feel good about Sunday & Monday, but Saturday and Tuesday will fall just short. Heat wave or not, It will be plenty warm for swimming and this time of year, that's what matters as the ocean, lakes, and pools are calling our names!

Increasing moisture may bring some fog and stratus to the region beginning late Saturday night into Sunday morning but quickly dissipate...and again Monday as the moisture could be trapped under a thin inversion. These clouds should dissipate rather quickly after sunrise. By Monday night cloud cover will have increased ahead of a cold front. Showers will spread into the region from west to east Tuesday as well as few thunderstorms...especially by the afternoon. Temps we be cooler in Lwr 80's by midweek.
