NH1 First Alert Weather: Summer Delight Awaits
Source: NH1 Chief Meteorologist
High pressure builds in from the northwest on Friday keeping the nice stretch of weather going across the New England. Expect slightly cooler high temps with most areas ranging through the 70s under sunny to partly sunny skies. Look for building clouds during the afternoon with the risk of a pop up shower or isolated thunderstorm later in the day.
Fair weather will continue Friday night with clear skies and light winds allowing temps to dip into the upper 30s to mid 40s in colder northern zones. Lows in the south will again bottom in the upper 40s to mid 50s. By the start of the weekend a positively tilted and weakening ridge moves into the Northeast helping to suppress afternoon convection or even much in the way of cloud development. With sunny skies and a dry airmass we should warm into the 70s and Lwr 80s Saturday. Light winds will allow PM sea breezes and cooler conditions right at the beach...but still very nice weather.
Sunday and Monday will be even warmer...around 85-90 degrees inland depending on location thanks to warmer temps moving in aloft, as well as a SW wind at the surface. Upper level ridging will be in place across the Northeast, but continues to break down Sunday and Monday as troughing slowly digs into the Great Lakes. On Monday we will see increasing southerly winds as the pressure gradient increases in response to the approaching trough from the west.
A cold front moves into our neck of the woods by Tuesday. There will be enough heating and forcing to kick up a few scattered showers...especially over New Hampshire and parts of western Maine...for some decent instability for thunderstorms by the afternoon and evening. The boundary moves offshore Tuesday night and stalls.
Upper level troughing remains nearby for the remainder of the week. Drier, cooler and less humid air will be arriving for the middle-end of next week under NW winds and a shifting trough into the Northeast. By Wednesday temps will be in the Lwr-mid-80, and Thursday we will have cooled off into the 70s for highs for most locations.
Have a great weekend, and Happy Father's Day!
