NH1 First Alert Weather: Showers around NH Saturday

NH1 Meteorologist

This weekend won't be wonderful, but it will be far from a washout across the Granite State with only scattered showers passing through.

The large system that brought up to 2 inches of rain and 40 mph wind gusts to the seacoast on Friday is moving out. However, another system is fast approaching with a round of showers that will move through the Granite State on Saturday. A cold front will start to move into the area during the day, with showers out ahead of it. The system is fairly moisture-starved, so a soaking rain is not expected, but showers are likely especially in central and northern New Hampshire from late morning through the afternoon. In southern areas, showers will be more scattered and quick-moving, so only a few periods of rain are expected. As long as your outdoor plans have a "plan B" to escape some brief raindrops, they should be able to go according to plan. Highs on Saturday will range from the 40s north to low and mid 50s in southern New Hampshire.

Even though the cold front moves through the state Saturday night and early Sunday, the air behind it turns colder gradually. Consequently, temperatures on Sunday with a partly sunny sky should manage to reach the low and mid 50s in southern New Hampshire. Highs will be in the 40s to the north. The next disturbance should miss New Hampshire to the south - though a brief shower cannot be ruled out Sunday afternoon in southern New Hampshire.

High pressure builds in for the start of the workweek. Expect a mostly sunny sky on Monday but it will be a cooler day. Highs will be in the 40s to near 50, from north to south.

Trick-or-treaters Monday night may need an extra layer. Although the wind will be light, temperatures will be falling through the 40s and even into the upper 30s in northern areas.

Tuesday morning will be chilly, but it looks like we will have a warming trend into next week, with the next chance for rain arriving in the form of a few showers on Thursday.

Have a great weekend!
