NH woman who murdered boyfriend in 1998 requests early release
NASHUA (AP) — A 42-year-old New Hampshire woman who has served 17 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend nearly two decades ago is asking the court to let her free.
Sherry Dukette requested an early release Monday after serving two-thirds of her minimum sentence for the Nov. 21, 1998 slaying of 40-year-old Shawn Howard.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Strelzin says another man Dukette was seeing at the time testified that she wanted Howard gone before his murder.
Dukette, who was 24 when she was arrested for the killing, was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2003 and was sentenced to serve 25 years to life behind bars.
Strelzin says she should continue serving her sentence. Dukette said she wants to mentor children if she's released.
