NH woman says mountain lion hangs out in neighborhood, Fish & Game doubts it

New Hampshire Fish & Game are skepital about the claims of a Barnstead woman who believes she saw a mountain lion twice this past month.

Naomi Avery of Hartshorn Road said she saw a bright orange cat roughly the size of a large dog with a long tail. She also heard a loud growl intended for Muffin, Avery's house cat, who was left with "eyes as big as bottle caps," Avery told the Concord Monitor.

When Avery said she reported the incident to the N.H. Fish & Game Department, they were "totally disinterested" unless photos of the animal could be provided.

Most cases of reported mountain lion sightings have turned out to be other animals like bobcats or coyotes.
