MANCHESTER – A Virgin Mary statue has been taken from a homeowner’s nativity set and she’s hoping a unique sign will help bring her home by Christmas.

The statue was taken from the front yard of a home on Linden St. last week, said homeowner Shirl Kula.

Kula has since posted a large sign in her front yard that reads “Please help! Mary missing, Joseph doesn’t want to be a single Dad!”

*Editor's note: the baby Jesus statue is not missing, Kula told NH1 News he is traditionally placed there on Christmas Day.

Kula believes it was likely a prank and she hopes that by keeping a good sense of humor the statue will be returned.

The set has been a tradition for about 15 years and this isn’t the first time it’s been targeted, Kula said. The baby Jesus statue went missing one Christmas day and was later found in a nearby bush.

“We would like her back because it’s kind of a unique set and we won’t be able to replace her so without having her back this will be the last year that it’s out,” Kula said.

Kula said she has no intention of calling police, she hopes the person responsible will do the right thing.

“The lights go out at midnight so it’s completely dark out here. Somebody could just drop her off and it would be great to have her back for Christmas,” Kula said.
