NH welcomed 14 Syrian refugees who received $925 each for 1st month in US
New England has welcomed 650 Syrian refugees over the past year - 14 of which reside in New Hampshire.
Some local politicians argue that the United States can be a safe country for refugees, while others are calling for a halt.
According to state officials, each refugee receives $925 dollars for the first 30 days to pay for food, shelter and clothing. After that time some single parent families will be eligible for aid including food stamps. There is also another program that allows a family of four to receive $738 dollars a month for up to 8 months.
Statistics show 85 percent of the refugees are employed within the first six months.
