NH Trooper struck by vehicle, saves man from being hit
MADBURY —An N.H. State Trooper was injured after he saved a man from being struck by an out-of-control vehicle Saturday morning.
N.H. State Police said that Trooper Christopher Prenaveau was investigating a single vehicle crash involving Keith Correll, 21 of Barrington, on French Cross Road in Madbury at about 10:30 a.m.
As Trooper Prenaveau and Correll were standing near the crash, a second vehicle approached the accident scene. The driver of the vehicle Anne Golding, 36 of Barrington, lost control on the snow and ice-covered roadway, and her vehicle began to slide towards Trooper Prenaveau and Correll.
Trooper Prenaveau quickly pushed Correll out of the path of Golding's vehicle and saved him from being struck. Unfortunately, Trooper Prenaveau was unable to avoid being struck, but he jumped into the air as Golding's vehicle struck him to attempt to minimize the impact. He landed on the hood and was then thrown into the windshield before coming to rest in the roadway.
Trooper Prenaveau suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover. Neither Golding nor Correll sustained injuries as a result of the collision.
“Trooper Prenaveau’s bravery and sacrifice today truly embody the spirit of selflessness and public service found in the men and women of New Hampshire’s State Police," Gov. Chris Sununu said following the incident. "I had the opportunity to speak with Trooper Prenaveau earlier, and I am thrilled that he is in good spirits. Valerie and I are grateful for his service, thankful to his family, and wish him a full and speedy recovery."
The crash is being investigated by the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit.
The N.H. State Police thanked local law enforcement and emergency response agencies from surrounding towns that responded to the incident, as well as the staff of Wentworth Douglas Hospital for their care and compassion in their treatment of Trooper Prenaveau.
