NH to hand out 5,000 free kits of over-dose reversing drug

CONCORD - The state has purchased 5,000 kits to distribute to community health centers and family members of people at risk for an overdose.

The kits contain information and the overdose-reversing drug naloxone, commonly known as Narcan.

The kits cost $500,000 and were paid for by a federal grant. They will be available at community health centers immediately, for free, officials said.

Under a new state law, doctors can also prescribe Narcan to the families and loved ones of those at risk of an overdose.

282 people died of an overdose between January 1st and Sept. 19th, officials said.

'The Anyone. Anytime. NH' campaign wants to spread the message that anyone can experience addiction, anyone can ask for help, and anyone can recover.
