NH Supreme Court rejects appeal from New Durham woman accused of starving boy

The Associated Press

CONCORD - The New Hampshire Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a New Durham woman accused of starving a young boy living in her home.

Christina Thomas was convicted three years ago of first-degree assault against her friend's son while the mother and child lived with her from 2006 to 2010. Prosecutors accused her of withholding food from the boy and forcing him at times to stay in a dog cage in her basement.

Thomas argued that jurors shouldn't have heard evidence about other abuse allegations, but the court ruled Tuesday that such evidence was relevant in showing that her failure to feed the boy was part of a deliberate pattern of abuse.

The boy was later adopted.
