NH State Forest Protection Society says Northern Pass trying to use their land, files lawsuit

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests has filed a lawsuit against Northern Pass, saying its project application with state regulators is improperly trying to make use of land the organization owns.

Hartford, Connecticut-based Eversource has proposed a 192-mile transmission line from Pittsburg to Deerfield, carrying 1,090 megawatts of hydro-power produced by Canada's biggest hydro generator, HydroQuebec. It filed an application with the Site Evaluation Committee last month.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Coos County Superior Court, has asked a judge to rule that Northern Pass' proposed use of the land known as the Washburn Family Forest is unauthorized.

A Northern Pass statement said the route is secure and that fact will be demonstrated through the SEC's review process. It calls the society's lawsuit irresponsible.
