NH ski areas welcome snow by opening more trails

The Associated Press

LINCOLN - N.H. ski areas are celebrating the first major snowfall of the season and are opening more trails.

Downhill and cross-country areas reported snow totals of at least 3 to 7 inches during Tuesday's storm. Some of the downhill areas had been able to make some snow ahead of the storm while others had been stymied by unusually warm temperatures.

Ski areas were either adding terrain or getting ready to open for the first time.

Skiing's big business in New Hampshire: Ski New Hampshire, an industry association, reported more than 2.5 million visits to ski areas during the winter of 2014-15. In a 2014 economic impact study, the association reported $1 billion in direct and indirect spending in the state was linked to skiing.
