NH's Shawn Melanson battles for CZ MMA Title

SALEM - New Hampshire’s Combat Zone MMA Title fights are Friday at Rockingham Park in Salem.

One fight that everyone is looking out for is the Light Amateur Title Fight between undefeated youngster Shawn Melanson and seasoned veteran Vince Ciotoli.

Experts all over New Hampshire see Melanson as a rising star.

They believe this 22-year-old from Manchester has what it takes to make it to the national level.

"Watch out. You do not want to fight this kid," Melanson’s MMA trainer Ray Shawnee said.

In Melanson’s first fight he won in 48 seconds. In his second fight he won in 39 seconds.

"I wasn't expecting to go to the ground for either of those fights, but I was ready for it," Melanson said. "I hit the ground and I hit the submissions.”

Shawn just quit his full-time job as a pizza delivery boy to train over 50 hours a week.

Since he was 11-years-old he knew how to fight.

“When I was 11 or 12 my cousins would ask me if I wanted to go out in the backyard and wrestle. That is where I learned my submission defense,” Melanson said.

In high school, he was also an all-state wrestler.

This fighter is packed with a lot of potential.

Expect an incredible fight.
