NH's Mount Washington auto road could reopen due to warm weather, lack of snow

GREEN’S GRANT – The above normal weather temperatures have the operators at Mount Washington considering something very unusual: reopening the auto road to tour vans.

The tour vans will be able to bring visitors up the auto road to the tree line of the mountain.

Although the vans shut down two months ago per usual winter conditions, the operators are considering using them to give tours at least until some snow starts to fall.

No personal vehicles are allowed up the mountain. At this time, the snow coach usually brings visitors up the auto road, but due to lack of snow the snow coach is staying in the garage.

The Mount Washington’s auto road is one of America’s oldest attractions and opened in 1861.
