NH ranks highest in New England for signing up organ donors at the DMV

CONCORD — More Granite Staters voluntarily check "yes" when asked about organ donation at the Division of Motor Vehicles than any other state in the Northeast.

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators says the state has the highest donor designation rate at 53.8 percent.

In response, the New England Organ Bank will present an Organ Donation award to the state's Division of Motor Vehicles on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Gov. Maggie Hassan and other state officials will be present at the event in the Governor's Chambers at the State House.

In 2014, 731 lives were saved in New England because of individuals who became organ donors, according to the New England Organ Bank.

The Bank is the federally-designated, non-profit procurement organization responsible for the surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplant throughout the New England region.
