STRATHAM (AP) — After surviving a butcher and running away from home, the story of Missy the pot-bellied pig has a happy ending.

The 3-year-old pig first arrived at the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in February. The family she was with couldn't take care of her anymore. She ended up with a butcher, at one point.

In April, a Massachusetts family with other pigs adopted her, but it didn't work out and she ran away. She was returned to the Stratham shelter after a week.

Monica Yanosick, the shelter's adoption counselor, said Tuesday that a family in New Jersey with two pigs saw an online posting for her through a site called the Pig Placement Network.

They adopted her last week. Yanosick told them, "You've made my year!"
