NH party chair Ray Buckley bids to lead national Democrats
CONCORD (AP) — As head of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, Ray Buckley has turned the state from a "political graveyard" for Democrats to a place where Democrats can withstand national Republican waves.
Buckley hopes to replicate that success nationally as head of the Democratic National Committee. He's one of five candidates, alongside Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, South Carolina party chairman Jaime Harrison and Idaho party executive director Sally Boynton Brown.
He's promising to build up state parties, which he says have been forgotten by a DNC too focused on Washington.
Buckley served 18 years in the Legislature and has held a variety of roles in the state and national party for decades.
