NH panel sets public hearing dates for Northern Pass plan

The Associated Press

CONCORD - Public hearings have been set for Jan. in five counties where the proposed Northern Pass electrical transmission lines would cross.

Hartford, Connecticut-based Eversource wants to run a 192-mile transmission line from Pittsburg to Deerfield, carrying 1,090 megawatts of Canadian hydropower to New England. Backers say it will create jobs and lower costs in a region that pays the nation's highest average cost for electricity.

Opponents have argued it will hurt property values, tourism and the environment.

The state Site Evaluation Committee recently declared the Northern Pass application complete, starting a one-year-review period. The SEC said Tuesday public hearings will be held as follows:

- Jan. 11 in Franklin

- Jan. 13 in Londonderry

- Jan. 14 in Laconia

- Jan. 20 in Whitefield

- Jan. 21 in Lincoln.
