NH officials: Portsmouth losing 15 percent of water because of leaks

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth is losing 15 percent of their water, according to city staff.

Through a leak detection program, city staff has been able to identify a number of leaks which has caused some of the water loss, Seacoastonline reported.

According to the Department of Public Works Director Peter Rice, the amount of water loss is not a crisis, but is also not acceptable - especially as New Hampshire is in the midst of an extreme drought.

The city is looking to potentially interconnect Dover's water system with Portsmouth to help with the system's problem.
