NH man suffers 'medical emergency' while freeing snowmobile stuck in snow, dies on scene

STEWARTSTOWN — A 62-year-old man died after his snowmobile got stuck in while attempting to get up a hill on Trail 21 in Stewartstown.

Robert Kaffel Sr., of Colebrook, was snowmobiling with a friend on Thursday, but became stuck while trying to navigate a hill. Fish and Game officers say that Kaffel and his friend were breaking in the trail most of the way because of the 18 inches of fresh snow that we received in the last storm.

The two were able to free the machine but Kaffel suffered a medical emergency. Kaffel's friend and a passer-by started to perform CPR and called 911.

Personnel from 45th Parallel EMS and Colebrook Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics on scene pronounced Kaffel dead.

Conservation officers and the Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the untimely death.
