NH man sentenced to 6 months in jail for domestically abusing girlfriend
BRENTWOOD — A Hampton man who domestically abused his girlfriend last year was sentenced at the Rockingham County Superior Court to six months in jail Thursday.
Keith Sparks attacked Zoe Lillis on October 13 after the couple returned home from a local bar. Sparks pulled her hair, threw her on the bed, punched her in the head and then placed both hands around her neck.
Prosecutor Patricia LaFrance said she hopes the sentence sends a strong message of deterrence to the community.
"It's (strangulation) a very serious crime," LaFrance said. "As I said in the sentencing hearing that this could lead to death in a matter of minutes, so I think it does send a deterrent message to people who would engage in those types of crimes and hopefully it gets the point across that if you engage in this behavior you will go to jail."
