NH man hospitalized after crashing into bridge

The Associated Press

PEMBROKE — Police say an elderly New Hampshire man was hospitalized after driving his car through the middle of a fork in the road and crashing into a bridge abutment.

The Concord Monitor reports 72-year-old James Brickner, of Barnstead, was traveling westbound on Route 4 in Pembroke Wednesday where drivers can make a right or left turn.

Police Chief Dwayne Gilman says Brickner instead stayed in the middle, traveled an estimated 1,300 feet and slammed into the side of the bridge abutment.

Gilman says he then made three or four turns before stopping.

He was taken to Concord Hospital.

Gilman says he appeared to be suffering from a medical issue.
