NH man arrested after stealing truck from Northfield, fleeing to Belmont

BELMONT — A man has been arrested after stealing a contractors truck from Northfield and fleeing to Belmont, police said.

Police reported that at about 8:44 a.m. Friday, Belmont officers were alerted by Northfield police that a stolen truck from Northfield was being tracked by OnStar. The stolen 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was reported on Hurricane Road in Belmont after police said it was stolen from a Northfield business.

Once the vehicle stopped, OnStar gave its location to police and reportedly used a Remote Ignition Block to disable the vehicle from starting again. Police then responded to the location and found the stolen vehicle parked at a residence on Hurricane Road.

While searching for the suspect, police spotted a man attempting to gain access to the residence where the vehicle was parked. A woman inside the residence told police she had heard the man knocking on the door, but did not answer because she did not recognize him.

After a brief investigation, police determined that the man, David Wartski, 52, of Northfield, was the one who had taken the truck, police said.

Wartski was arrested and was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Belknap County Superior Court on May 4.
