NH man arrested after police say he sexually assaulted underage girl in Dover
DOVER — A Somersworth man was arrested Tuesday after police said he sexually assaulted an underage girl early Sunday morning.
Dover police said they arrested Christopher Elwell, 28, of Somersworth, on one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault.
Dover police said the investigation began Sunday when they received a report that Elwell had sexually assaulted the victim, an underage girl known to him, at a Mineral Park Drive residence. Police said the girl was visiting the residence at the time of the assault.
Upon arrival, police learned that Elwell had received a “no trespassing” order from the Dover Housing Authority, which included Mineral Park Drive residences.
Responding officers arrested Elwell at the scene for criminal trespassing and he was held at the Strafford County House of Corrections.
The Dover Police Department's Special Investigations Bureau conducted an investigation into the sexual assault allegations and an arrest warrant for Elwell was eventually issued on Tuesday.
Elwell was arrested around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday while still in custody at the Strafford County House of Correction. He is charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault. He declined the services of a bail commissioner and is being held at the Strafford County House of Corrections. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Strafford County Superior Court on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Elwell is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 2008 of two count of felonious sexual assault on a teenager younger than 16. He also has an extensive criminal history that includes theft, criminal mischief and failure to register.
