NH lawmakers working to clarify Rape Shield Law to protect victims
Lawmakers are attempting to clarify New Hampshire's Rape Shield Law to guarantee that all victims will be protected throughout the entire legal process.
NHPR reported that under the current law, a victim's sexual history is excluded from trial.
It wasn't until last summer that the extent of the protection was called into question by the NH Supreme Court, during appeal hearings regarding the 2012 rape and murder of UNH student Lizzi Marriott.
The N.H. Supreme Court decided to keep Marriott's sexual history private, but now some individuals are working to make sure that all victim's sexual histories will remain private throughout the entire legal process in the future.
