NH is the happiest state in New England - and near the top in the US

A smile might just be made of Granite.

According to a new WalletHub study, New Hampshire was ranked the happiest state in New England and the 11th happiest state overall.

Vermont was No. 14 overall and second in the region followed by Massachusetts (16), Connecticut (17), Rhode Island (27), and Maine (33).

The rankings were based on three categories: Emotional & Physical Well-Being - worth 50 points; Work Environment - worth 25 points; and Community & Environment.

The Granite State's highest ranking was in the first category - emotional and physical well-being - at No. 7 overall.

The unhappiest state in the U.S. is West Virginia, which is certainly no New Hampshire.

So keep smiling, Granite Staters. It's what we do.
