NH hospitals form nonprofit organization to improve health care

The Associated Press

WHITEFIELD (AP) — Four North Country hospitals in New Hampshire have formed a nonprofit partnership to improve health care and reduce costs.

They are Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook; Littleton Regional Hospital; Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster; and Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin.

The Caledonian Record reports the agreement, announced Tuesday, will be forwarded to the Charitable Trust Unit of the attorney general's office for review. It would be implemented next year.

The hospitals' parent organization, North Country Health Care, will have its own management, board of directors and bylaws, but each hospital will maintain its board of trustees, license, staff, endowments and charitable assets.

The hospitals have said as health care costs grow, their charitable mission and financial viability are not certainties.
