NH firearms deer season begins Wednesday

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — The regular firearms season for deer hunting in New Hampshire is getting underway, but officials are urging hunters to call ahead and make sure weighing and checkpoint stations are open.

The opening day, Wednesday, coincides with Veteran's Day, so some checkpoint stations might be closed.

Archery season for deer hunting started in September, followed by muzzleloader season in October.

The firearms season runs through Dec. 6 in most parts of the state.

Altogether, the state Fish and Game Department says the state has more than 59,000 licensed hunters ages 16 to 68.

As of early this week, hunters had taken just under 5,000 deer, a 3 percent drop from the same point last year.
