The Moultonborough Fire Department received a report of a house fire Monday around 3:42 a.m. from a neighbor who discovered the flames. First responders discovered the home fully engulfed, officials said.

The State Fire Marshal's Office responded and located a dead person inside the home.

An autopsy is scheduled for June 21 at 8:30 a.m. to make a positive identification of the deceased individual.

Officials deemed the home a complete loss and said an investigation is ongoing at this time.

State Fire Marshal William Degnan and Moultonborough Fire Chief David Bengtson would like to remind everyone that working smoke alarms save lives and to have an escape plan in case of a fire.

Anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is encouraged to contact investigator Matthew Wilmot of the State Fire Marshal’s Office at (603) 223-4289.
