NH Donald Trump supporter's large sign vandalized with Islamic symbols in Meredith

MEREDITH - With just a few short weeks to go until the first-in-the-nation N.H. primary, Granite Starters are picking sides.

But as a man in Meredith found out, his opinion may not popular with everyone.

Now, the FBI could be getting involved.

"Well I put up a Donald Trump sign, and someone vandalized it last night," said Rodger Woodman, pointing to a giant "TRUMP" sign on his property.

The sign is only a few days old.

"Someone wrote ‘repent’ on the sign and an Islamic symbol and a peace sign," said Woodman.

At first, Woodman didn’t think anything of it, but then a friend urged him to take it a little more seriously.

"I knew the second I saw the Islamic crescent and star that it was it, no doubt,” said Oris Hutchins, Woodman’s friend who didn’t like the look of the message on the Trump sign.

The star and the crescent are a symbol of Islam, but aren’t recognized as a threat.

Still Woodman and his friend were not sure what to make of the message - or if they should be concerned for their safety.

"I would have expected someone to write ‘Hillary’ or ‘Bernie.’ or they're upset that he (Trump) wants to put a stop to bringing hundreds of thousands of people to the U.S. that want to hurt us,” said Woodman.

He said he can’t figure out why his sign was targeted.

Woodman did report the defaced sign to police, but said he wouldn’t be surprised if it was high school kids messing around.

Still he thinks his message needs to be heard. He said it's his First Amendment right.

“We’re not going to be intimidated," he said. "We should be able to support whoever we want.”

Police are investigation the incident, and Woodman was told - if necessary - that the FBI may have to get involved.
