NH DHHS Commissioner Nick Toumpas will step down

The Associated Press

CONCORD - The head of N.H.'s largest state agency is resigning early next year after eight years on the job.

Nick Toumpas will step down as commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services on Jan. 8. He had previously served as deputy commissioner from 2002 to 2007, when he served as acting commissioner when John Stephen resigned. He later was named commissioner in January 2008 and has been reappointed since then.

Gov. Maggie Hassan on Wednesday praised Toumpas for helping New Hampshire maintain its status as one of the healthiest states in the nation and for overseeing the implementation of its expanded Medicaid program.
