NH AG releases names of 2 state troopers who fatally shot Portsmouth man

HAMPTON — Two New Hampshire State Police troopers shot at a Portsmouth man at the N.H. Liquor & Wine Outlet in Hampton, resulting in his death.

Sgt. Keith Walker, a 19-year member of the State Police, and Erik Willett, a five-year member of the State Police, fired their weapons at Barry Jones, 36, on June 13, announced Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and State Police Col. Christopher J. Wagner. Both troopers are assigned to the Troop A State Police barracks in Epping.

The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.

MacDonald and Wagner anticipate that a preliminary report regarding whether the officers' use of deadly force was justified is set to be released once the investigation is completed.

Both troopers remain on paid administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation per state police protocol.

Jones allegedly stole his neighbor's car, pointed a gun at someone and told the individual to drive with him to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to "get some drugs," MacDonald had said.
