NH AG launches investigation of drug companies marketing painkillers
CONCORD - New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster is launching an investigation into a handful of pharmaceutical companies marketing prescription opioids in the state.
The question he is asking is whether drug companies deliberately minimize the risk of addiction from the long-term use of narcotic pain killers and exaggerate their benefits for treating chronic pain.
"What we really want to look into is what's led into what we see as a significant rise in prescribing habits," Foster said.
The investigation is expected to take months and possibly a year, he said.
